Requirements

In order to see if your machine meets all the hardware and software requirements to run the application, you may want to read the Before you Start page before downloading/installing the packages.

License Agreement

This beta version is distributed free of charge, but it does come with a License Agreement. IF YOU USE THE SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SUCH LICENSE AGREEMENT. So, you must read it (it's located both in the directory where the "tar.gz" files get untarred, and on the Help menu inside the application).

What to Download

You must choose either the mips3 or the mips4 package. It's not possible to install both in the same machine (the installation conflicts will tell you to uninstall the previously installed package if you want to install the other one).

IRIX 6.2 and higher, R4X00 processor (mips3), n32

pegamento_1.0beta5_mips3.tar.gz

It will untar to a directory from where you must use either inst or Software Manager for installing the package.
This package comes without any demos at all (but with complete online documentation). If you want a demo, download the Desktop Demo below.

The Desktop Demo

Apart from choosing one of the above packages, you may also want to download the Desktop Demo, which is not an interesting composition, but it's a lot of fun, and you can use it for testing the basic features of the application. In order to see it, just press File>MergeComposition and choose the 'desktop_demo.cmp' file.

desktop_demo.tar.gz

Important: If your machine has little texture memory (4MB for example), please check the Insert>InsertOptions>LowResMode>1/2 menu option before loading the Desktop Demo (if you do it after loading it, you must select all layers and press the Reload icon button). Otherwise, your frame rate might be too poor because of texture memory swapping. Users of machines with more texture memory don't need to do this in this demo.

Older Versions

If, for any reason, you want to download an older version, here you have them:.

User-reported Bugs and Workarounds

  • If your machine has a libjpeg library in /usr/freeware/lib32/ and you have /usr/freeware/lib32 in either your LD_LIBRARY_PATH or LD_LIBRARYN32_PATH environment variables, you must be sure that /usr/lib32 is before /usr/freeware/lib32 in such variable. Otherwise, pegamento is killed while loading image files (Bus error). When this happens, you'll previously get the following message in the shell: Error: Wrong JPEG library version: library is 62, caller expects 61. This is because versions "6a" and "6b" of libjpeg are not binary compatible (executables built with the first won't work with the second and vice versa). Pegamento expects to get the libjpeg version that uses IFL, and that's "6a", not "6b" (but note that libjpeg is not directly accessed from the application, just transparently through IFL). Thanks a lot to Andreas Sturm for reporting this.
